SICILIAN MARBLES
As far as the economy of the whole region is concerned, the extraction of marble in the province of Trapani occupies an important position. After Carrara, this is the biggest marble basin of the Italian territory.
Besides CUS.MAR. s.r.l. this sector includes several companies with a wide range of production: from semi-processed raw material to products for interior decoration. The main product of the marble industry of Trapani is the Perlato di Sicilia, a precious variety of marble extracted in different municipalities of the province but especially in the area of Custonaci. Other locally extracted typologies of marble are the Avorio Venato, Breccie di Custonaci, the Libeccio, the Rosso fiorito di San Vito, the Perlatino di Sicily and the Botticino.
The stone sector of Sicily has been able to carve out, in recent years, an increasingly big area as far as export is concerned. It is extracted and processed in the island but there is also a great demand from the foreign markets where it is appreciated for of resistance, adaptability and compactness.
